Only stuff in good repair so they were well protected. I would put lower DR stuff on them as early in the game as I could get it and PA when I could get hold of that. It's also not a bad idea to RPP better equipment onto them. I also, if I ran in to them out in the Wastes would fast travel away from them. They have routes and if you follow them around then they are more susceptible. They only get attacked if you are in the cell with them. To help prevent this I only trade with them in Rivet City. The big problem with this is that the caravaners can die. There's a chart on the wiki page that tells you what their caps go up to and their repair skills, etc based on what you invest. You go to Canterbury Commons and talk to Uncle Roe and can give him 200 and then 500 caps per caravaner and then they carry more caps and can repair your stuff to a higher level. Make the rounds to everyone in the RC Marketplace, go out to Tenpenny Tower and sell to everyone there, go to see Tulip in Underworld and if Sydney is in business sell to her as well, etc. The only other thing I can recommend is to sell to everyone with caps. So ya, it costs you money to make money, but it's nice. If you invest in the caravaners they will have a lot more caps on hand.

While that often makes me the target of some (hopefully) good-natured ribbing around the office, it's also given me an innate sense of how to best maximize your ROGT (Return on Gaming Time, for the uninitiated) when it comes to earning achievements and trophies.
